What type of timing belt does a 1986 Buick Century have?

Something is wrong with the timing belt in my 1986 Buick Century. My dad told me that if it's a metal chain, then it will be harder to fix, but if it's a regular belt then it will be much easier. So does a 1986 Buick Century have a Timing Chain or not?|||if it has a 2.5, the engine doesn't have to be pulled to do the gears, a competent gm tech can do it in car|||Gear to gear cam drives don't fail-they just get loud. My guess is that the engine and or electrical connections are shaking themselves into oblivion. Wasted motor-mounts and shortned electric ground wires ussually spell a quick doom to an otherwise doomed drivetrain. Place extra engine and chassis ground wires everywhere you can-including the tranny case.|||4 cyl have timing gears and V-6 have a timing chain.|||well your car does have a timing chain and not a belt its really not any harder to fix but why do you think it needs one if you car is missing out and runs like its out of time then chances are you have a bad coil ,wire , spark plugs and possibly even a bad injector


I guess what i am saying is timing chain usually dont fail even though i dont agree with kendra on the 300,000 mile marker chains usually last long time give me some more info and lets see what your working with then maybe we can get some where|||A chain.|||chain it proably is the plugs or timing adjustment not the timing chain they last about 300'000 miles|||it is a chain,and depending on the engine..2.5L 4 cyl had just 2 gears...that went bad all the time.the 4 cyl engine requires removal of the engine to fix the timing gears.the gears have fiber coating on the one gear so theyre quieter but it comes off and the car dies...not the best idea they ever had...replacement gears are both steel.i can do these with the engine in the car..but ive done hundreds,an inexperienced person wold probably damage the engine.best bet is if you have the 2.5 tec 4 engine,get a pro to do it.
